For the second year running, the northern Italian region of Veneto saw record tourism last year after 19,5 million people visited the area.
The number represents continuous growth since 2017, thanks to the increase in arrivals of foreigners (+1,8%) and Italians (+2,8%).
In total, more than 69 million tourists spent just one day in the region. At least 70% of citizens are foreigners, with 15,6 million being German, 3,8 million Austrian and 2,6 million English. The presence of Americans increased by 14,1%, that of Chinese, 5,2%, and Russians, 7,9%.

Regarding the most visited cities, Venice remains at the top of the list, followed by Vicenza, Verona and Treviso. As a measure to try to reduce the flow of tourists, the Venice City Council approved the creation of a landing fee for tourists, in addition to the creation of an appointment system to enter the city in 2022.
