"We want Italian culture not to disappear” — this is how Elon Musk expressed his concern about the wave of immigration in Italy and other European Union countries.
The visionary entrepreneur and CEO of renowned companies such as Tesla and SpaceX was recently in Rome to participate in the "Italian Pride" conference of Atreju, the party's festival. Brothers of Italy, by Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, which brought together leaders and personalities from the right.
During his participation, Musk uttered two intriguing phrases about immigration and preserving cultural identity: “Italy is the people of Italy” and “We want Italian culture not to disappear”. These statements prompted reflections on the relationship between immigration, cultural identity and demographic sustainability in developed countries.
The businessman questioned the conventional view that immigration is the solution to the low birth rates faced by many developed countries. Musk has argued that simply increasing the number of immigrants is not a sustainable solution, raising concerns about maintaining a global hierarchy that perpetuates poverty in some nations while promoting an anti-natalist version of prosperity in others.
“I am very much in favor of legal immigration, we need to welcome those who want to work and improve the country. Do you know who enters? My point is: will they improve the country, will they be useful to the economy, do they admire the culture? Excellent. I'm not saying all illegal immigrants are bad; probably some of them are good, but you can't know if they don't exist. It’s a clear process,” said the businessman.
The businessman emphasized that he recognizes the intrinsic value in each culture and expressed his desire to preserve the cultural identity of countries such as Japan, Italy and France.
