A Autonomous Province of Trento, in northern Italy, has launched an initiative to combat the depopulation of mountainous areas. 10 million euros have been earmarked over two years to encourage the purchase and renovation of properties in 33 municipalities selected.

The project provides for non-refundable incentives of up to 80 thousand euros – R$ around 500 thousand – for those who decide to move and live in these villages for at least 10 years. The aim is to revitalize local communities and promote territorial cohesion.

How the incentive works

The funds cover 35% to 40% of the expenses for purchasing and renovating properties. The maximum amounts provided are:

  • 20 thousand euros for the purchase of the property.
  • 80 thousand euros for renovation, equivalent to 40% of the maximum allowable expenditure of 200 thousand euros.

To obtain the benefit, it is necessary to live in the property for at least 10 years or rent it to new residents for a moderate amount, according to the newspaper. Corriere della Sera.

Who can participate

Individuals who acquire ownership or usufruct rights over a property in the selected municipalities may apply for the incentives. It is possible to apply for the benefit for up to three real estate units, encouraging unified renovation projects.

Those who already reside in the chosen municipalities cannot access the funds, unless they are over 45 years old.

Applications must be submitted in accordance with the rules established in the official notices of the Autonomous Province of Trento, available on the institutional website.

Municipalities covered

The selected municipalities were identified based on a demographic analysis that revealed significant population loss over the last decade. Among them:

  • Val di Non: Bresimo, Livo.
  • Val di Sole: Rabbi, Vermiglio.
  • Judiciary: Bondone, Borgo Chiese.
  • Vallagarina: Terragnolo.
  • Altipian cimbri: Luserna.
  • Valsugana and Tesino: Castello Tesino, Cinte Tesino, Grigno.
  • Primiero: Sagron Mis, Mezzano, Canal San Bovo.
  • Cembra Valley: Sorry, my son.
  • Val di Fiemme: Valfloriana.
  • Val di Fassa: Fassa Campsite.

The final list will be published after the decree is officially approved.

An opportunity to live in the mountains

This initiative represents a unique opportunity for those who dream of moving to a mountain village with a significant financial incentive. The small towns of Trento offer a high quality of life, a strong sense of community and authentic contact with nature.

For those interested, the recommendation is to follow the updates of Autonomous Province of Trento and carefully evaluate the opportunities offered.
