O Italian consulate in Belo Horizonte, for the second time, will be headed by a woman. The diplomat Nicoletta Gomiero arrived in Brazil this month to take over the agency. She takes over the position left by Maurizio Fedeli.
Born in Padua on March 5, 1980, Gomiero attended linguistic high school and then graduated in International and Diplomatic Sciences at the University of Trieste, later obtaining a specialization in International and Diplomatic Studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Padua.
After gaining professional experience in European planning in France from 2009 to 2016, he embarked on a diplomatic career. In her early years she worked at the General Directorate for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In 2018, he took up the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Kenya and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in Nairobi. Subsequently, at the Italian Embassy in Canada, he held the position of Head of the Consular Chancellery (2021-2022), also dealing with the coordination of the consular network in Canada.
Before diplomacy, Gomiero coordinated a project at the NGO Eurocircle, for children and adolescents, in France.
Nicoletta is married to Rémi and has two sons Paolo and Diego.
