O president of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, visited the National Library of Rio Janeiro, the largest in Latin America and one of the 10 largest in the world.
It is the main memory institution in Brazil, as it preserves a copy of every work published in the national territory.
Opened in 1810, the library is also the oldest cultural government organization in the country.
Mattarella was received by the Italian-Brazilian Marco Lucchesi, president of the National Library Foundation, an agency linked to the Ministry of Culture, and inaugurated the exhibition “Rio: Nova Roma – Cultural Alliances – 150 years of Italian immigration”, set up in the institution's atrium on the occasion of the visit and which will remain there. accessible virtually on the internet.
