Italian president said all of Italy is united with the French people after the Notre Dame fire

Italian President Sergio Mattarella sent a message to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to offer solidarity following the fire that hit Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday (15).

“In these dramatic hours, all of Italy is united with sincere friendship and closeness to the French people,” he wrote.

Mattarella also expressed “anguish” upon receiving “the news of the fire that is raging at Notre Dame Cathedral, a historical treasure that over the centuries has preserved an exceptional artistic heritage of immense significance for France, Europe and world culture.” ”.

In the letter, the Italian president stated that “our thoughts go out to those who are working, at all levels, to contain the flames and preserve, as much as possible, this extraordinary symbol of Paris.”
