The President of ItalySergio Mattarella, congratulated the Republican on Wednesday (6) Donald Trump for his victory in the United States elections.
“I wish you every success in your new term as President of the United States,” wrote the Italian head of state, also reinforcing his desire to Roma to work alongside Washington bilaterally and in the context of relations with Europe.
“Our countries are united by inseparable bonds of friendship and collaboration, cemented by shared democratic values and a common commitment to a rules-based international order. These ties, which include the essential Euro-Atlantic dimension, are of vital importance, especially in the current international context marked by conflicts and pockets of instability,” added the Italian President.
Mattarella's position echoes the Prime Minister's statements Giorgia Meloni, who also stressed the “indestructible alliance, common values and historic friendship” between Italians and Americans.
Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a TV interview that the Republican's victory "will bring stability to the United States, our great partner." "I don't see any problems with Trump's election, in fact, I believe he has a natural sympathy for Italy," he said. (ANSA)
