A serious locust plague is affecting this Italian region, threatening to destroy crops

The emergence of this pest is linked to a strong increase in temperature after a relatively cold month of May. Many insects left uncultivated land and went to cultivated land to feed.
Coldiretti, the main farmers' association in Italy, has called for assistance from authorities at all levels to address the problem, but there are concerns that nothing can be done now.
Leonardo Salis, the regional president of the association, declared that preventive measures should be taken taking into account the next season. He proposed plowing uncultivated land to prevent egg laying and reproduction.
“They are devouring everything in their path and, as a result, they are leaving animals without pasture and, in some cases, they are compromising the forage harvest and damaging the bark of the plants,” he said.
