On the run, the Italian was sentenced to life in prison for four murders and involvement in terrorism.
The Federal Police searched for Italian Cesare Battisti at the embassies of Bolivia and Venezuela, after he fled his home in Cananeia (SP) due to former president Michel Temer's decision to extradite him.
The information is from the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, which says that the PF asked the two diplomatic representations whether they were giving shelter to Battisti. Both denied it.
Also according to the diary, investigators also found information that the Italian was in the Amazon.
The PF's objective, according to Estadão, is not to speak publicly about the matter and convey the feeling that the Italian is not being sought after, which could lead him to “make mistakes”.
The Federal Police have also considered that he may have fled the country. Temer decreed Battisti's extradition last December, after Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Luiz Fux authorized him to review the asylum granted by former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The Italian was sentenced in his home country to life in prison for four murders committed in the 1970s and involvement in terrorism.
International forces will help find Battisti
The general delegate of the Federal Police (PF), Rogério Galloro, stated that the Italian Cesare Battisti will be located soon. Even if he left Brazilian territory.
“I do believe he will be found. I don’t know if it will be found on Brazilian territory,” declared Galloro when participating, in Brasília, in the release of the report on the Ministry of Public Security’s achievements.
“The search protocols for international fugitives have all been activated. We have already contacted several international police forces, including Interpol. We have some clues whose details, obviously, I cannot reveal”, commented Galloro, revealing that more than 32 operations have already been carried out to try to locate the fugitive. “The PF has already arrested Cesare Battiti three times. Every time he was released”, lamented the federal delegate.
