Online content, between 1887 and 1978, from the Public Archive can be accessed free of charge.

Italians, Portuguese, Japanese, Koreans, Lebanese and several other nationalities are represented in the documents that register the entry of immigrants into São Paulo. How about, for example, knowing if your family visited the Hospedaria dos Imigrantes between 1887 and 1978? This information is available on the State Public Archive website.

Through the page it is possible to locate individuals who disembarked at the Port of Santos, those who entered the Hospedaria de Imigrantes between 1887 and 1978 or people who were registered with the foreign inspection bodies in São Paulo between the years 1939 and 1984. The collection comprises a series of sources representing the economic insertion of the immigrant population.

The importance of the Immigrant Hostel

Built between 1886 and 1888, the former “Hospedaria de Imigrantes do Brás” was one of the largest reception centers for foreigners in Brazil. More than two million people passed through its facilities between 1887 and 1978.
