What are the comfort foods Italian favorites? The search for that comforting feeling, known as that just food can provide is something universal.
A recent survey conducted by Bva Doxa in collaboration with Just Eat investigated the comfort foods Italian favorites, revealing their choices when looking for a gastronomic experience that brings immediate well-being.
The research is part of the seventh edition of the study "Cibo map at home in Italy" which aims to explore emerging trends in the food delivery sector and the preferences of Italians in the culinary world, with emphasis on the influence of social networks and the growing concern about sustainability in the kitchen.
The meaning of comfort foods for Italians
Before we dive into preferences, it is essential to understand the concept of c.
These are foods that carry a consoling and sentimental value, being an absolutely personal and subjective experience.
According to the survey, 40% of respondents find their comfort foods in familiar dishes, while 38% seek out those that instantly improve their mood.
The reign of pizza and focaccia
What, then, are the comfort foods favorites of Italians? The pizza and cake reached the top of the list, receiving votes from 60% of participants.
These flavor-rich foods are intrinsically linked to Italian traditions, covering tastes from north to south of the country.
The charms of sweets
In second place, we have sweets, with 40% of preferences. Many people seek comfort in an extra dose of sugar, which can quickly elevate their mood and provide a burst of energy.
The icy pleasure of gelato
In third place is the gelato, chosen by 38% of respondents. Although it is mainly preferred during the warmer months, gelato offers the consolation of returning a little to childhood.
The sweetness of chocolate
Finally, in fourth place, we find chocolate, with 32% of respondents including it in their preferences. In addition to its irresistible flavor, chocolate contains substances that raise levels of Serotonin, known as the happiness hormone.
The feelings linked to the consumption of comfort foods
For many Italians, consuming their c provides feelings of well-being. In particular, 44% reported feeling gratification, and 41% reported experiencing true happiness.
The search for foods that elevate mood
Research reveals that 80% of Italians would be interested in trying foods specially designed to improve mood and provide a feeling of well-being.
Tradition X experimentation
At this point, Italians' desires are divided. More than 90% of respondents said they are driven by positive emotions and memories when placing an order, while 22% show interest in trying new flavors, especially among younger people.
The influence of social networks on gastronomy
Food continues to be of fundamental importance in all areas of life, including social media. Surprisingly, 70% have tried to replicate famous recipes shared by influencers, while 50% follow at least one restaurant on their social profiles.
The growing concern about sustainability
Finally, sustainability is increasingly in focus. Forty-four percent of participants consider the use of local and closely sourced products to be essential, 42% support anti-waste initiatives, and 65% are willing to pay more for sustainable delivery.
The Italian gastronomic scene is constantly evolving, balancing tradition, innovation and a growing environmental awareness.
