Impact for Brazilians in Portugal
The change should lead more Brazilian families to register the birth of their children at consulates.
According to the consul-general in Lisbon, Alessandro Candeas, demand could grow.
"Demand is likely to increase, as there are many Brazilian families who do not register their children born within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General with the consulate. This is partly evident from the inquiries we receive and the number of late birth registrations," he stated.
Currently, the consulate registers about 12 births per day, which represents approximately 250 per month.
