The television presenter and cook Palmira Nery da Silva Onofre, Grandma Palmirinha, died last Sunday morning (7), aged 91, in São Paulo.

According to a family statement on Instagram, Palmirinha died at 11:20 am on Sunday (7) “as a result of worsening chronic kidney problems”. She had been admitted to Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz, in the capital of São Paulo, since April 11th.

Palmira Nery da Silva Onofre was born on June 29, 1931, in Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo. She was the daughter of Bahian Felippe Nery da Silva and Italian immigrant Ana Zambolin

He lived a difficult life, with many challenges. At just 6 years old, she left her parents' home, after disagreements with her mother, and went to live with a French woman who loved to cook

It was there that he learned a lot about cooking. Years later, she had to return home after her father's death, but the problems continued. At age 16, her mother sold her to a farmer, but she managed to escape with the help of a relative. 

At 19, the presenter got married so she could leave home. However, she lived in an abusive relationship for almost 20 years, reporting that he had even experienced physical attacks. 

History on TV

Palmirinha debuted on TV in 1994, at the age of 63, with a participation in the presenter's program Silvia Popovic on TV Bandeirantes, which led to her being discovered by Ana Maria Braga, who at the time presented Note e Anote, on TV Record.

Invited to present a Breakfast, she remained at the attraction for five years.

In 1999, she was hired by Gazette TV to present the Culinary TV, and ran the program for more than 11 years.

Afterwards, he presented the Palmirinha Program on the closed channel Bem Simples/FOX Life, where it remained on air until 2015.

Palmirinha leaves three daughters, sons-in-law, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The presenter's wake will take place this Monday (8), at the Morumby Cemetery, from 9 am to 17 pm. The burial will be reserved for friends and family only.
