The most powerful passports in the world in 2022

O passport Italian was considered the third most powerful in the world to travel in 2022. The assessment was made by the consultancy Henley & Partners, focused on global citizenship and residency, which released its first report of 2022 this Wednesday.

The index does not take into account temporary restrictions, so, leaving aside actual travel access, current passport holders at the top of its ranking – Japan and Singapore – can, in theory, travel visa-free to 192 destinations.

The ranking remains largely unchanged as we enter the first quarter of 2022.

South Korea is tied with Germany in second place (with a score of 190) and Finland, Italy, Luxembourg and Spain are all joint third (with a score of 189).

EU countries dominate the top of the list, as usual, with France, the Netherlands and Sweden moving up one place to join Austria and Denmark in fourth place (with a score of 188). Ireland and Portugal are in fifth place (with a score of 187).

The United States and the United Kingdom, which held first place together in 2014, have recovered some ground. They moved up a ranking to sixth place, alongside four other nations with a history of isolationism or neutrality: Switzerland, Norway, Belgium and New Zealand.
