Around 10 people have died in Poland in recent days. In some regions, temperatures reached -20ºC on Saturday. In Belgium, a man died when a truck slid off the highway due to snow.
In Italy, freezing temperatures have killed six homeless people, while heavy snowfall and strong winds have caused flight delays, ferry delays, train cancellations and road closures. In southern Italy, some schools have been closed and fountains in St. Peter's Square have frozen over.
In Greece, the temperature reached -7ºC in the city of Thessaloniki and -10ºC is expected for Sunday.
The cold also hit Istanbul and the airline Turkish Airlines canceled more than 650 flights. Turkish news agency Dogan reported that one of the main highways practically became a parking lot, as drivers abandoned their cars due to the slippery and snow-covered roads.
