Titled in Brazil as “Os Fantasmas Ainda Se Divertem”, the sequel to the film about the funny ghost “Beetlejuice”, directed by filmmaker Tim Burton, was chosen as the opening film of the 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will be screened on August 28th in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema, and will hit theaters in Italy on September 5th.
“I'm thrilled.
It means a lot to me to have the world premiere of this film at the Venice Film Festival,” said Burton.
Distributed by Warner Bros Pictures, the sequel will hit theaters more than 30 years after the debut of the original film in the 1980s, and will bring back its classic characters played by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.
The cast also includes Catherine O'Hara, Justin Theroux, Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe, as well as Italian actress Monica Bellucci.
“It is the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters in Tim Burton's cinema, but also the happy confirmation of the extraordinary visionary talent and mastery of one of the most fascinating authors of his time”, said the director of the Film Festival, Alberto Barbera .
According to the Italian, “the Venice Biennale is honored and proud to be able to host the world premiere of a work that is a surprising balance of creative imagination and a fascinating hallucinatory rhythm”. (HANDLE)
