From April 1, 2024, residents in the consular district of Brasília who wish to request recognition of Italian citizenship by descent must exclusively use the Prenot@mi portal.
That is one controversial system of automated appointment management developed by Farnesina, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which sought impartiality in scheduling appointments for consular services, but has been criticized.
The Embassy announced this new system, emphasizing that the adoption of Prenot@mi aims to standardize practices among consular offices abroad. To date, of the seven Italian consular units in Brazil, only the Italian Consulate General in Porto Alegre has not yet adopted the system. Prenot@mi.
During the initial transition phase, the diplomatic headquarters specified that the number of appointments available in the system will be adjusted to the effective capacity to process requests. According to the body, this balance aims to meet the operational needs of processing pending requests, while respecting the procedural deadlines provided for by law and the expectations of users.
All requests sent before April 1, 2024 (with the date of actual receipt of the registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt at the Embassy as reference) will continue to be treated according to current procedures, following the chronological order of receipt.
In addition to the Federal District (DF), the consular district of Brasilia is responsible for the states of Amapá (AP), Amazonas (AM), Goiás (GO), Pará (PA), Roraima (RR), Tocantins (TO) and Suriname.
