Film will show the story of a humble man who changed Italian football with his moves
The streaming service Netflix and the Italian broadcaster “Mediaset” announced that they will produce a film about the life and career of former football star Roberto Baggio.
The film will be called “Il Divin Codino” and will be directed by Letizia Lamartire. There is still no information about the duration and release of the film, but it is expected to be available to the public between 2020 and the beginning of 2021.
The actor who will play the former player will be Italian Andrea Arcangeli, 26 years old.
The film will show Baggio's entire career, from his first professional game at Vicenza, in 1982, to the last time he took to the field, in 2004, for Brescia. The film will also portray his time with the Italian national team.
“It's the story of a humble man, with unlimited talent, who changed Italian football with his moves. We will also tell the story of a person who achieved great triumphs on the field through personal suffering,” stated Larmartire.
In his 22-year career, Baggio played for Vicenza, Fiorentina, Juventus, Milan, Bologna, Inter Milan and Brescia. The former athlete won two Italian Championships, one Italian Cup and one UEFA Cup. The Italian was also elected the best player in the world in 1993. For the Italian national team, the former star played in 56 games and scored 27 goals. Baggio was runner-up in the 1994 World Cup in the United States, when he kicked a penalty that went wide and helped Brazil win its fourth championship.
