A Natitaliani Association has started an international fundraising campaign to challenge Decree-Law 36/2025, which restricts the recognition of Italian citizenship jure sanguinis (by blood) only up to the second generation born abroad.

The entity has already collected €15.568 of €30.000 required – around R$ 195.000 – to hire a constitutional lawyer. The specialist will be responsible for analyzing the legal basis of the law and identifying violations of the Italian Constitution, with the aim of preparing a lawsuit against the decree.

More than 300 people have already contributed to the cause. The association claims that the decree threatens the identity and historical bond of millions of Italian descendants, by ignoring generations that maintain ties with Italy even outside its territory.

“We cannot sit idly by,” the organization says, on the fundraising page.

“We want to count on the opinion of an important constitutionalist, who highlights the unconstitutional aspects of the decree and allows us to act with strength and competence in institutional spheres.”

The entity asks for financial support from the Italian-descendant community to reach the campaign goal.

The contribution can be made online and the amounts raised will be used exclusively for hiring the specialist and for the initial legal costs.
