Naples was identified as the poorest city among Italy's top metropolises based on average annual income, according to a new report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The map of the neighborhoods of the capital of campania highlights the inequalities between different areas of the city, with huge differences between the center, tourist areas and the outskirts.
Unlike other cities, however, Naples presents a division that does not follow the classic center-periphery dichotomy, but a more complex and fragmented reality.
Income in Naples: map of neighborhoods
Based on the report published by the Ministry, it is possible to observe that the richest citizens of Naples are concentrated in just three neighborhoods of the city, while the poorest areas are in the center and not on the margins of the periphery.
Chiaia is the richest neighborhood in Naples: located in the western part of the city, it is considered the noble area of the capital of Campana, with an average annual income of over 41.000 euros.
In second place on the list of the richest neighborhoods in Naples are Posillipo e Vomero, with an average annual income of 33.329 euros.
The areas of Arenella, Porto-Pendino e San Ferdinando they also have an average annual income of more than 20.000 euros, benefiting from their proximity to higher-income neighborhoods.
Between 15.000 and 20.000 euros annually are the following areas of Naples: Vicaria, Avvocata, Montecalvario, San Carlo All'arena, Stella, Poggioreale, Fuorigrotta, Bagnoli, San Pietro a Patierno, Chiaiano, Pianura, Soccavo and San Giovanni a Teduccio.
The areas of Ponticelli, Barra, Piscinola, Scampia, Secondigliano, Mercato and San Lorenzo have an average annual income of less than 15.000 euros.
According to the report on income declarations published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the poorest areas are those with the CEPs 80139 e 80142, corresponding to the neighborhoods of the Historic Center of Naples and Mercato, with an average income of 12.664 euros per year, and San Lorenzo, with 12.092 euros.
Comparison between Naples and other cities in terms of annual income
The numbers presented by the Ministry allow us to make a comparison between Naples and other Italian metropolises: in Milan, voted one of the best cities in Europe to invest in real estate, the neighborhood with the lowest income is Quarto Oggiaro, where the annual average is 18.000 euros, a lot above the 12.000 euros of San Lorenzo.
The situation is similar in Rome, where the poorest areas are Tor Bella Monaco and Castelverde, with an average annual income that still exceeds 17.000 euros.
The differences between Naples and other Italian cities are also evident in relation to the richest neighborhoods. In the famous Quadrilateral of fashion in Milan, for example, taxpayers' tax returns average €95.000 per year.
Em Rome, in the central region, in the heart of the capital, the average income tax is more than 60.000 euros per year, and there are eight neighborhoods where the average exceeds 40.000 euros.
In Turin, in the areas close to Mole, the average annual income reaches 57.000 euros and remains above 40.000 euros even in adjacent areas. (Photo: Depositphotos)
