To celebrate Naples' 2,5th anniversary in 2025, the famous southern Italian city has prepared a program with more than 2,5 attractions between March 25 and December 21.
The calendar, with the slogan “Millennial Naples”, includes exhibitions, shows and cultural initiatives to pay homage to the rich historical, artistic, scientific and identity heritage of the capital of Campania, proving that it is much more than just the “land of pizza”.
To open the celebrations, the playwright, actor, comedian and filmmaker Eduardo De Filippo (1900-1984), one of the most illustrious Neapolitans of the 20th century, will be honored with the screening of a film inspired by the play “Naples Millionaire” on the 25th, exactly 80 years after the first showing of the play.
Another highlight will be the open dance class on April 29, to mark International Dance Day. The activity will be led by Clotilde Vayer's company in Piazza Plebiscito. In October, the Teatro di San Carlo will host the Enrico Caruso International Lyric Competition, in collaboration with the world's most important opera houses, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York and La Scala in Milan.
“With Naples Milenare, we are not content to celebrate an anniversary, even a prestigious one. Our ambition is for the projects implemented to become a permanent laboratory for institutional and non-institutional collaboration, with particular attention to the talents of this territory”, says Laura Valente, artistic director of the celebration.
“For such a complex and layered history, which has always projected itself in new languages and, at the same time, firmly supported by a tradition that has not lost its brilliance, we could only focus on a dynamic and constantly evolving program,” he adds. (HANDLE)
