Deadline for recognition of Italian citizenship by naturalization must be lower.

The change that provides for a period of 36 months and no longer the current 48 months recognizes the Italian citizenship through naturalization it should arrive at the table of Council of Ministers in the next days.

The draft of the draft decree, entitled “urgent provisions on immigration“, modifies the “security decree” by Salvini, implemented in 2018.

The change meets the wishes of the current Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, who believes that the current decree is not suitable for current society.

What changes

If approved, the new decree, according to the draft obtained by the Italianism, revokes sections of the security and immigration law decree.

The change, however, alters the legal deadline for completing the process of Italian citizenship – including the option for marriage, the so-called naturalization.

On the other hand, the minister Lamorgese defends an even shorter period: 24 months.

The end of the requirement for prior knowledge of the language through a proficiency test is not included in the current draft, which may still receive changes.

Today, it is required level B1, which is equivalent to the intermediary for the process to be completed.

In principle, the new decree, still according to the draft, does not change the rules relating to recognition of citizenship by blood right (the right of blood).
