The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, stated this Wednesday (18) that former player Robinho, convicted of rape in Italy, could serve a sentence in Brazil. The information was confirmed in a radio interview BandNews FM.
Sentenced to 9 years in prison for the rape of an Albanian woman in 2013, the former player was denied extradition in November 2022. However, the Brazilian Constitution prohibits the federal government from forcing natural-born citizens who are in the country to serve sentences In other countries.
It will be up to the Ministry of Justice to evaluate a possible request from the Italian government for Robinho to serve his sentence in a Brazilian prison. “In theory, there could be a sentence served. But it is something to be examined later when this is actually processed. So far it has not reached my hands”, highlighted the minister.
Today (19), marks a year of Robinho's conviction at the Italian Court of Cassation, the last instance of the judiciary in the country.
Robinho was recently speculated as a possible player for Portuguesa Santista. He visited the club this week, but the negotiation was ruled out by the club.
