A Microsoft announced an investment of 4,3 billion euros (R$25,8 billion) in Italy, an investment that will be used to boost artificial intelligence services in the country over the next two years and will help consolidate the peninsula as a digital hub in the Mediterranean.
The news was announced this Wednesday (2), during a meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the president of the American multinational, Brad Smith, at the Chigi Palace, headquarters of the Italian government, in Rome.
“Meloni expressed satisfaction with the important investment that Microsoft is bringing to Italy in order to increase the data centers needed to support the growing demand for AI services,” said a statement from the prime minister’s office.
“The reinforcement of computing capacity, highlighting Italy’s excellence in higher education and research, will contribute to the consolidation of Italy’s development as a digital hub in the Mediterranean, in line with the priorities of the Mattei Plan with Africa and the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment [PGII], a strategic initiative launched within the framework of the G7”, highlights the Meloni government.
