Michelangelo's greatness was not in stature. The father of the famous paintings of Sistine Chapel of Roma, was 1 meter and 60 centimeters, as evidenced by his shoes, a pair of leather slippers, under scrutiny by scientists. 

Analysis was also conducted on a somewhat “Spartan” slipper (the other disappeared in 1873) kept in the Buonarroti home in Florença

Michelangelo was the undisputed protagonist of Italian Renaissance.

The study is signed by two Italian researchers, the paleopathologist Francesco Galassi and the forensic anthropologist Elena Varotto, from the Research Center of FAPAB in Avola (Sicily), and was published in the international scientific journal Anthropologie. 

Michelangelo Buonarroti, died in Roma on February 18, 1564, in the house of Piazza Macel de' Corvi, which no longer exists (it was destroyed to make way for the Vittoriano). 

He was almost 89 years old and until a few days before he had worked at Pieta' Rondanini, now in Milan, destined to remain unfinished.

It was his nephew Lionardo who took the body to Florence, where he was buried with great pomp in Santa Croce, where he still rests next to the monumental tomb built for him by Vasari.
