Even without Italy's presence, the 2018 World Cup continues to have high audience ratings in the "country of the boot" compared to 2014.
According to the balance of the first phase released this Friday (29) by the Mediaset group, holder of the broadcasting rights, the 48 matches already played had a total audience of 175 million viewers.
In the 2014 World Cup, the group stage games had been watched in Italy by around 155 million people – in that edition, the tournament was broadcast by two broadcasters, “Rai” and “Sky”.
The most-watched match in 2018 continues to be the 1-1 draw between Brazil and Switzerland, with 7,46 million viewers (36,33% share). One of the reasons for the increase in viewership may be the time difference, as in 2014 the last game of the day was broadcast in Italy at midnight.
In 2018, matches are broadcast at 14pm, 17pm and 20pm.
