Ongoing project plans to limit the right for descendants of Italians
The theme “Italian citizenship” has once again generated apprehension in recent days.
All because one bill – presented in November last year, but only now made public to the Italian community – foresees limiting the right to citizenship for descendants of Italians.
The project is Elisa Siragusa, from the left party “Movement 5 Stars“, and has been on the constitutionality committee since April.
The proposal has signatures from 6 other deputies, from the same party of comedian Beppe Grillo.
According to the project, which aims to modify the Law 91 / 1992, the transmission of Italian citizenship it would only be valid for the first generation, that is, only for children.
The motivation? Because these third or fourth generation descendants have no cultural or linguistic connection with Italy.
the deputy Luis Roberto Lorenzato, Alloy, believes that Siragusa's party and its allies have enough votes to approve the text.
He even posted a very aggressive text against the proposal. “A communist government that prefers illegal Africans, 99% men, between 18 and 30 years old, 'well endowed', to integrate Islamic culture in Italy”, wrote the parliamentarian on his page “Vote for Citizenship“, on Facebook.
However, Ricardo Merlo, senator and undersecretary of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, believe that It is a big mistake to limit the “right of blood” and that the proposal will not move forward.
“Cutting generations of jus sanguinis means causing incalculable economic and cultural damage to the country. The recognition of jus sanguinis not only is it sustainable, contrary to what some say, but it generates enormous profits for the Italian economy”, he said in an interview with the portal “Italy chiama Italy".
According to him, those who propose limiting the transmission of Italian citizenship do so because they obviously do not know the reality of the facts.
Elected in Latin America, with votes mainly from Argentina, he promised to fight against the proposal.
