Altroconsumo, the Italian consumer protection association, conducted a survey of more than 12 consumers and 41 shopping experiences to identify the best supermarkets in Italy in 2025.
The survey showed that, although general satisfaction remained stable, there was an average 5% reduction in monthly spending among Italians, particularly among larger families.
Esselunga
With 77 points, Esselunga leads the ranking in the hypermarket and supermarket category. The chain is praised for the quality of its own products and the comfortable experience in its stores.
Nature Yes
Tied with Esselunga, NaturaSì also achieved 77 points. Known for its emphasis on organic and sustainable products, it stands out for quality and service.
Ipercoop
Rounding out the top three, Ipercoop shares first place with Esselunga and NaturaSì. The chain also stands out for its variety of products and transparent pricing.
Aldi
In the discounts category, Aldi ranks first with 75 points in the survey “Best supermarkets in Italy in 2025”. Consumers highlighted its combination of competitive prices and product quality.
Eurospin
Tied with Aldi, Eurospin is the favorite of many due to its cost-benefit ratio. Its e-commerce presence was also highlighted as a differentiator.
Dpiù
Following the discounts, Dpiù appears well placed for offering good options at affordable prices, followed by MD Discount and Prix.
Coop
In addition to standing out in fourth position among hyper and supermarkets, Coop is a leader in the online shopping category, thanks to the efficiency of its delivery service and the organization of its digital platform.
Local networks
Dem, Rossetto, Mega and Iperal lead among local chains, showing that small markets also achieve high approval with a focus on service and quality.

Convenience and low prices: Aldi and Tosano.
Comfort in stores: Esselunga, Cadoro and Interspar.
