The tremor was felt in Cosenza, Rende, Catanzaro, Lamezia Terme, Crotone, San Giovanni in Fiore, Rossano and Petilia Policastro
A strong earthquake measuring 4,4 on the Richter scale was recorded in the early hours of this Friday (17), at exactly 0:37 am, felt in the provinces of Catanzaro, Cosenza and Crotone, in the Calabria region.
There are no reports of casualties or damage. According to Italian authorities, the epicenter of the tremor was located at a depth of 8 kilometers.
“Living in Calabria also means having that basic scare every now and then. But the tremor this morning scared me,” said Rodrigo Tomazi, a Brazilian who lives in the Cosenza region. He was awake at the time of the earthquake.
The area affected by tonight's seismic event, explains INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), “is considered to be at very high seismic risk”.
