In Italy, pizza consumption per capita is 12,5 kilos per year
The “margherita” won this Sunday (21) the “Miss Pizza 2018” contest, held in Rimini, on the east coast of Italy, by the Industrial Association of Millers (Italmopa).
The vote took place during a congress of flour producers, the main raw material for the most beloved Italian dish in the world.
In an election among workers in the sector, 57,3% chose the “margherita”, which has tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella, as the best pizza flavor. Next come “Napoli”, with 16,6%, “quattro stagioni”, with 7,7%, and “diavola”, with 7,4%.
In Italy, the amount of flour destined for food production in 2017 was 370 thousand tons, in addition to the 50 thousand purchased directly by consumers. (Per HANDLE)
