March 2025 brings a series of changes to life in Italy, with cultural events, new transport services and celebratory dates.
Highlights include the peak of Carnival celebrations, the opening of a major Caravaggio exhibition in Rome, and the reopening of the railway link between France and Italy.
Carnival reaches its peak
Carnival in Italy, which begins in mid-February, reaches its peak in March, with the highlight being the Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday), celebrated on March 4th.
Venice hosts the country's most famous carnival, but several Italian cities organize parades, musical shows, mask workshops and tastings.

UK ETA Application
From March 5, Italian citizens will be able to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter the United Kingdom. The document, valid for two years, costs £10 and allows multiple entries. The requirement will apply to citizens of the European Union and European Economic Area from April 2.
Last chance to take advantage of the winter sales
Winter sales ended in February in some regions, but will continue through part of March in others. Discounts range from 20% to 30%, offering opportunities for those looking to save.
Caravaggio Exhibition in Rome
The Caravaggio 2025 exhibition, held at the Palazzo Barberini, begins on March 7 and runs until July 6.
The exhibition will feature more than 20 works by the Italian master, including pieces never before seen in Italy, on loan from the Prado Museum in Madrid and the Detroit Institute of Arts.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8, will feature events and parades across Italy. According to local tradition, men present women with mimosa flowers.
Transport strikes
March will see three nationwide strikes, affecting flights, trains and public transport. On March 8, a 24-hour general strike will be held, followed by strikes by baggage handlers on March 16 and by trains, including Trenitalia and Italo services, on March 18.
Rugby: Italy vs Ireland
The Italian rugby team will face Ireland on March 15 at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, concluding their participation in the Six Nations Tournament.
National Unity Day
Em March 17, Italy celebrates the Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, marking the founding of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. The date, although not an official holiday, features ceremonies in honor of the country's unification.
Father's Day in Italy
Father's Day will be celebrated on March 19, Saint Joseph's Day. The tradition includes symbolic gifts and typical sweets, such as sweets of San Giuseppe.
Spring equinox and time change
The spring equinox occurs on March 20, marking the beginning of the season. On the 30th, clocks will move forward one hour to switch to daylight saving time.

EasyJet's new flight routes
From March 30th, EasyJet will launch new direct routes from Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino, connecting Italy to several destinations in Europe.
Reopening of the France-Italy rail link
High-speed train services between Paris and the Italian cities of Turin and Milan will resume on March 31 after a 19-month suspension due to a landslide.
