O consulate General of Italy in São Paulo began mapping minor children of Italian citizens by birth, with the right to citizenship by benefit of Law No. 74/2025. The procedure must be done exclusively through the Prenot@Mi portal.

The news was explained in a video published on consulate's official Facebook pageWhere Vincenzo, head of the citizenship sector, detailed the guidelines on how to correctly fill out the form (watch here).

The measure seeks to assess the real demand for appointments and organize the service calendar, respecting the legal deadline, which ends in May 2026.

São Paulo can serve as a thermometer for the Italian government

As São Paulo is home to one of the largest Italian consulates in the world in terms of volume of services, it is speculated that the Italian government is using local data as indicator of the need to extend the legal deadline.

The mapping can help the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assess whether it will be necessary to extend the period for recognition of citizenship by legal benefit, given the high demand.

Who should register on the portal

Registration on the form is intended exclusively for parents who do not yet have an appointment for delivery of documents.

Who already has a scheduled date? should not register againThe objective is to avoid duplication and ensure efficient service planning.

How to fill it out correctly

In Prenot@Mi, the person responsible must access the “Registration” tab and:

  • Confirm that the children are from the same parent;
  • Inform whether everyone resides within the jurisdiction of the Consulate of São Paulo;
  • Fill in the details of the oldest child who has not yet been registered;
  • Do not include children already registered or with recognized citizenship.

Documents must be attached in PDF format.

In the final step, you need to attach:

  • Parents' documents;
  • Birth certificates of unregistered minors;
  • Copy of the parent's citizenship recognition order, if available;
  • Proof of payment, highly recommended, even though it is not mandatory.

All documentation must be complete on the day of your in-person appointment. Detailed instructions are available on the consulate's official website: https://conssanpaolo.esteri.it/…/beneficiolegge
