This Saturday (3), Capitol Square, in Roma, was the scene of a protest charged with emotion and symbolism. Hundreds of Italian descendants from Latin America — including Brazilians, Argentines, Venezuelans and Guatemalans — demonstrated against the Italian government’s decree-law that limits the right to citizenship by descent. With banners, posters and a large panel of family photos covered in black paint, the participants denounced the erasure of the history of millions of immigrants and demanded respect for their origins and ties to Italy.
