A store located in Italy of the French brand Dior was placed under judicial administration for outsourcing its luxury production to Chinese companies that exploited its workers.
According to the decision of the Milan Court, the Dior establishment, which belongs to the largest luxury group in the world, will remain in these conditions for at least one year.
The Italian judges declared that Dior had not applied “appropriate measures to verify the real working conditions or the technical capacity of the contracting companies”.
Investigators identified 32 employees, nine of them foreigners, who worked for salaries below the limit and in “abusive and unhealthy environments”. The machinery also did not have safety devices, which would prevent people from coming into contact with chemical agents.
According to the agents, the production of a Dior bag, for example, cost around 56 euros (R$321), but was resold for 2,6 euros in the store (R$14,9). Asian companies that operated irregularly were fined and had their activities suspended.
In Italy, Dior became the third fashion company to be targeted by the Milanese court for similar labor issues. (HANDLE)
