Seven villages have been included in the coveted list of the “most beautiful in Italy”, a country that tries to promote lesser-known destinations and the historical, artistic, cultural and scenic heritage of small towns.

Agira (Sicily), Badalucco (Liguria), Frigento (Campania), Giano dell'Umbria (Umbria), Maccagno Imperiale (Lombardy), Monteprandone (Brands) and Palena (Abruzzo) joined 354 other sites recognized by Associazione Borghi Più Belli d'Italia, created in 2002 and now has 361 destinations.

“We congratulate these villages for having overcome the complex evaluation process to join our association”, declared the entity’s president, Fiorello Primi.
“Among them are already established towns and others that, although they are equally fascinating and rich in artistic, cultural and environmental treasures, are less known and need our boost”, he added.
To date, around a thousand of the approximately 8 thousand municipalities in Italy have already asked to join the association, which is restricted to localities with less than 15 thousand inhabitants.
