A member of the anti-vaccine movement in northern Italy converted to science after stopping semi-intensive therapy because of Covid-19.
Lorenzo Damiano was one of the leaders of the denialists in Treviso, a province in the Veneto region, a stronghold of the Italian ultra-right, and had participated in demonstrations against anti-Covid vaccines, but ended up contracting the disease during a trip to Medjugorje, in Bosnia-Herzegovina .
The virus made him spend a week in the semi-intensive care unit at Vittorio Veneto hospital, something that ended up changing his idea about immunizations. “After this period, I now have a different view of the world and I am going to get vaccinated,” Damiano told Veneto newspapers.
The former anti-vaxxer is 56 years old and founded the “Nuremberg 2” movement, which proposes prosecuting those responsible for the “grand scheme of a virus created on purpose” – the name refers to the Nuremberg Tribunal, which tried Nazi leaders after the Second World War.
Furthermore, he stated that “the vaccine does not come from God”. “I will be ready as soon as possible, whenever God wants, to make the whole world know how important it is to follow science collectively. Sometimes you have to go through a narrow door to understand things as they are. Everyone get vaccinated”, he added.
More than 84% of the target audience is already fully vaccinated in Italy, but more than 6 million people have not even taken the first dose, which leaves room for the coronavirus to continue spreading.
The recent rise in cases in the country has already led the government to institute a health certificate for access to practically all activities, including workplaces, and bringing forward the third dose of vaccines for all adults. (HANDLE).
