Tourists in the Lake Como, in Lombardy, northern Italy, can now purchase a somewhat controversial souvenir about the city: a can containing the city's air.
According to the creator of the proposal, Davide Abbaniale, “the idea is not to sell the air of Como itself, but to sell a memory, an emotion from a trip to one of the most iconic places in the world”.
Abbaniale defends the project as being “the sale of a concept”, since the bottle with the air of Lake Como “is nothing more than a provocation, considering that it is impossible to bottle air to sell it”.
The value of the souvenir is also provocative, costing 10 euros (R$62,9) and can be purchased at a bookstore in the city.
The initiative, however, divides the opinion of tourists passing through the region. “I think the best thing is to go to Como and breathe its air,” said one traveler, while an Italian tourist from Naples confirmed that he bought the can containing the local air.
Lake Como is one of the most visited places in Italy, receiving approximately 1,4 million tourists per year. Nestled in the Alps, it is famous for its fascinating natural beauty, as well as being home to several luxury residences. (HANDLE)
