Eduardo Kobra unveiled a mural in honor of the Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007) in a community of just 300 inhabitants in southern Italy, the land of the Brazilian artist's ancestors.
The work is located in the San Pietro district of Magisano, in the Calabria region, and features Kobra's well-known style, which mixes realistic reproductions with strong colors and geometric shapes.
The mural consists of a reproduction of the tenor singing, while colorful birds inspired by Brazilian species come out of his mouth.
“Anyone who has visited their ancestors’ homeland knows how exciting it is. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to visit Calabria and Sicily, where my great-grandparents were born. Not only did I get to know the place of my roots, but I also left my mark there,” Kobra wrote on social media.
According to the artist, the birds represent Pavarotti's "legacy", which "resonates throughout the world to this day". "The space for this mural was provided by a lady in her 80s, a resident of the house and an admirer of Pavarotti", added the artist, who has already created several works in Italy, including one in homage to three-time Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna at the Imola Racetrack.
