The Italian newspaper The paper announced the launch of a special edition produced entirely by artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative, which began on March 18, is part of a month-long experiment to evaluate the impact of technology on journalistic production.
First experience of its kind
O The Fire AI is a four-page section inserted in the traditional edition of the newspaper. It is available in both print and digital versions. According to Claudio Cerasa, the newspaper's editor, the objective is to demonstrate how AI can be used in practice, producing structured and clear content, without obvious grammatical errors.
The special edition features articles without direct citations from human sources. Highlights include an article on Donald Trump and the relationship of his Italian supporters with “cancel culture”.
The last page includes AI-generated letters, simulating readers questioning the future of artificial intelligence.
“AI is a great innovation, but it still doesn’t know how to order a coffee without adding the wrong sugar,” jokes one of the responses generated by the tool in the newspaper’s letters section.
Debate on AI in journalism
The launch comes as media companies around the world are discussing the role of AI in news production. In March, BBC News also announced the use of technology to personalize content for its readers.
The initiative of the The paper seeks to understand how AI can be integrated into journalism without compromising the credibility and authenticity of information.
