O Italian-Brazilian Jorginho, from Chelsea and the Italian National Team, was named the best player in Europe last season.
Winner of the Champions League for his club and the European Cup defending the Azzurri, he won the award this Thursday, during the Champions League group draw ceremony.
Jorginho outperformed in the vote, carried out by a special jury from Uefa (understand more below ), Belgian Kevin De Bruyne, from Manchester City, and French midfielder Kanté, his Chelsea teammate.
He was unable to attend the event in Turkey due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, but thanked him in a video message on the big screen in the auditorium where the draw was held.
“Thank you everyone, unfortunately I cannot be there due to the restrictions. But I'm very happy with this award, I can't help but thank everyone who contributed to this happening. I would like to thank everyone who helped me this season, the fans, the players, the coach and all the people who didn't believe in me, because you motivated me to work harder”, said Jorginho.
Jorginho played 43 games for Chelsea in 2020/21, scored eight goals and contributed two assists. In Eurocup, played in seven games of the Azzurra's victorious campaign.
