Italian citizens vaccinated abroad will also be able to access the “green pass”, a certificate created by the government for people immunized, cured or tested for Covid-19.
However, it is not yet clear whether Italy will also accept Russian and Chinese vaccines, which are widely used in Latin America, which has a large Italian community.
“The circular from the Ministry of Health has finally arrived, long awaited by hundreds of thousands of Italians who were vaccinated in countries outside the European Union and who need the green pass in Italy”, says senator Ricardo Merlo, president of the Italian Associative Movement abroad (Maie).
To date, the health certificate is granted to people who have been cured of Covid for a maximum of six months, who have tested negative in PCR or antigen tests for a maximum of 48 hours or who have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca, Janssen, Moderna or Pfizer formulas.
However, Merlo says it is not yet known “what will happen to those who have taken doses of the Russian or Chinese vaccine.” “There are countless cases, just think that Argentina and Venezuela use Sputnik V, while other Latin American countries use the Sinovac [Coronavac] vaccine,” he added.
The government has also not yet explained whether the green pass can be used by Italians residing in high-risk countries, such as Brazil, to travel to Italy. Currently, the certificate is used for travel within the European Union, but, from August 6th, it will also be charged in theaters, cinemas, gyms, fairs, congresses and covered areas of bars and restaurants.
