Italian citizens residing abroad have until July 31 to decide whether they want to vote in Italy in the parliamentary elections on September 25.
Italian expatriates who are regularized have the prerogative to participate in the election through postal voting, but they can also choose to vote in their own municipality of electoral registration in Italy.
For this, it is necessary to inform the relevant consulate by the 10th day after the date of the announcement of the vote. Therefore, the option to vote in Italy must reach the consulate by July 31st.
This communication can be written on plain paper and, to be valid, it must contain the voter's name, surname, date, place of birth, place of residence and signature, in addition to being accompanied by a copy of the declarant's identity document.
You can also use the form available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (www.esteri.it) or that of the consular office itself.
Those who do not wish to vote in their municipality in Italy will be able to participate in legislative elections by mail, having to choose candidates for the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate who represent their electoral district abroad – in the case of Brazil, South America.
In this case, it is not necessary to inform the reference consulate. Before September 25th, voters will receive the envelope with the ballots at their home to send them completed by mail.
Currently, Italy's Parliament has 18 members elected abroad (12 deputies and six senators), but this number will increase to 12 (eight deputies and four senators) in the September 25 elections. due to a constitutional reform that came into force in 2020.
