Italian Federica Brignone won the gold medal in the giant slalom event at the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria, this Thursday (13).
It is a time trial competition in which skiers must cross a series of gates in the shortest time possible.
The 34-year-old Azzurri finished the race in 2m22s71, 90 hundredths of a second ahead of New Zealander Alice Robinson, who took silver. American Paula Moltzan completed the podium.
This is Brignone's second world title, having won a gold medal in the combined event, a discipline that includes slalom (similar to giant slalom, but with a more winding course and slower speed) and super-g (faster), in Courchevel-Méribel 2023.
The Italian also has three podiums at the Winter Olympics, one silver (Beijing 2022) and one bronze (Pyeongchang 2018) in the giant slalom and one bronze (Beijing 2022) in the combined.
Italy has three medals at the 2025 Alpine Skiing World Championships, which end on February 16, with two golds and one silver. (HANDLE)
