Enel Distribuição Rio has confirmed an investment of €1 billion—approximately R$6,2 billion—in the state of Rio de Janeiro between 2025 and 2027. The plan includes hiring 2 new professionals and expanding the digitalization and resilience of the electricity grid.
The information was announced by Francesco Moliterni, CEO of the distributor for eight months, during an event promoted by the Rio Chamber of Commerce.
The amount represents a 74% increase compared to the previous plan and includes 66 municipalities, covering 73% of the state of Rio de Janeiro and benefiting 3 million users.
Investment in network and people
According to Moliterni, the resources will be used to digitize the network for remote management and to adapt the structure to extreme climate change.
In addition to infrastructure, the company invests in professional training and programs to reintegrate military personnel into civilian life, with support from the Armed Forces. "Customer service remains a priority, with the opening of new stores in major cities," the executive stated.
Connections with Brazil
Moliterni emphasized his personal connection to the country, recalling the story of his great-grandfather, a Calabrian immigrant to Brazil. "It was a wonderful experience. But working here requires a clear strategy and a consistent approach."
According to him, Brazil is a strategic priority for the Italian group, which also operates through Enel São Paulo, Enel Ceará and Enel Green Power, which together generates 6,6 GW of clean energy.
It's worth noting that Enel is a mixed-capital company, with both public and private equity ownership. The Italian state is the main shareholder, while the private sector is comprised of financial institutions and individual investors.
Cultural and social event
Enel Rio and the state government are promoting the Italy-Brazil Heart Match on October 10th in Rio, a free event that brings together idols from the 1982 and 1994 World Cups.
Among the confirmed names are Zico, Romário, Bebeto, Aldair, Júlio César, and Júnior. On the Italian side, Cannavaro, Materazzi, Tardelli, Altobelli, Conti, and others will participate. Also taking part will be the Italian ambassador, Alessandro Cortese, and the consul general in Rio, Massimiliano Iacchini.
