Italy will tighten rules in 5 regions from 10/01

With the worsening of the epidemiological situation, 5 regions of Italy will return to the orange band – the second most restrictive in the national plan – between January 10th and 15th.

The change is based on data for the period from December 28th to January 3rd released by the Ministry of Health's Office this Friday (08).

Calabria, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna will return as the transmission index (Rt) is above 1 and Sicily and Veneto will enter the orange zone at the request of the governors, who fear a lack of control during the next week. The rest are in yellow.

The new classification will be signed this Friday night by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, and ends discussions on the new classifications until the publication of a new decree from January 15th.

The governor of Liguria, Giovanni Toti, and Lazio, Nicola Zingaretti, announced that, even if their regions are in the yellow band (the least restrictive) during the next week, they will postpone the return of face-to-face classes for higher education students to 18 of January.

Toti informed that he spoke with Speranza about the postponement as he considered that this moment “is still fragile and unstable” due to the spread of Covid that occurred at the end of the year and that the measure is just a precaution.

Since the Christmas festivities, Italy has had the same rules for the entire territory, temporarily abandoning the system of classification bands (green, yellow, orange and red) based on regional epidemiological data.

Until this Sunday (10), the same rules applied to everyone – Monday (5) and Tuesday (6) everyone was in lockdown; Thursday (7) and Friday (8) in the yellow belt with some reinforcements; Saturday (9) and Sunday in the orange band.

For next week, there were still many doubts about how the classification would be made, as the government's Technical-Scientific Committee (CTS), in partnership with the governors, redefined the indices to enter each range: Rt above 1 in orange and Rt 1,25 for red.

Now, with this Friday's decree, until January 15th, the rules are defined. There is still no announcement of the date of the new national decree.

According to figures released this Friday by the Ministry, the whole of Italy returned to Rt above 1 (1,03) in the period analyzed and, if the index is maintained, it is likely that the entire territory will return to the orange range.

The rules in the 5 regions of Italy

The band system has been in force in the country since November and the rules tighten as the pandemic advances in each region.

Red is practically the lockdown seen in March and May last year, with the difference that industries can operate and people can leave their homes once a day to exercise. Other than that, it is only permitted to leave the residence for work, emergency or health reasons and with written justification.

In orange, the main measures are the reopening of bars and restaurants for deliveries and withdrawals, the possibility of leaving home without justification, the operation of non-essential commerce, but there is a ban on interregional travel. Both orange and red have a curfew from 22pm to 5am.

In yellow, the main rule is the curfew and the mandatory use of masks. However, all sectors can return to normal operation with the simplest health rules. (Handle)
