Italy surpassed the 15 million people mark this Friday (1) vaccinated against the new coronavirus.
With 1.002.044 vaccinated, it leads vaccination in the European Union in absolute numbers and is in second place in proportional rates, with 1,61% of the population immunized, behind only Denmark (2,23%), according to the website Our World in Data.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte celebrated the milestone on his Twitter profile.
“1 million Italians received the anti-Covid-19 vaccine. A thank you to the citizens and our National Health System for the extraordinary response”, wrote the prime minister, who is at risk of having to resign after losing his majority in the Senate.
“It is encouraging data. We move forward, but always keeping our attention”, said Conte.
Until now, vaccination is carried out with vaccines from Biontech/Pfizer and the Modern, the only ones approved by the European Union.
The application of second doses should begin next Sunday (17), 21 days after the start of the campaign, on December 27. (ANSA)
