Italy will put a 2 euro commemorative coin into circulation in honor of health workers.
This is a tribute to the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and technicians who are on the front line of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Each country in eurozone may issue two commemorative coins per year.
The back of the coin features a portrait of a man and a woman, wearing medical devices and masks. The word “thank you", that means thank you in Italian.
“Most celebrate the anniversaries of historical events or mark current events of historical relevance. The first €2 commemorative coin was issued by Greece, on the occasion of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004”, says the ECB.
