If everything goes as expected, the new law intends to come into force on January 2017, XNUMX.
Italy will begin debating a new cinema law in the Chamber of Deputies, which includes, among other points, a project to create a website that maps places, monuments and other settings for film productions.
The portal aims to map locations that are generally sought after for filming, such as baroque palaces, medieval squares and, in this way, make life easier for the production of works. This is because producers could virtually access and consult the location's availability, characteristics and even costs for filming on the sets. The work is being carried out in partnership with the Film Commission of each region.
According to the Minister of Cultural Goods, Dario Franceschini, this law “has been expected since 1965” and, with the approval of the Senate, “it should be approved in the Chamber quickly”.
“Cinema is a vehicle for promoting our country. The work we are doing with the new Cinema law is to bring major productions back to Italy. A quality Italian film or a foreign film set in Italy is worth a lot in terms of tourism advertising. More than a paid advertising campaign”, declared Franceschini to the newspaper “Il Messagero”.
Franceschini also said that the change means more resources, as it stipulates a minimum fund of 400 million euros destined to grow in 2017. This is because a collection of around 11% of income tax collection from companies in the sector will be fixed. and value added tax.
“Thus, we will end with the debate between each government which, depending on the moment and based on the situation of public accounts, reduced or increased the Fus [Single Fund for Shows], leaving the film industry with an uncertainty of values”, concluded Franceschini . (by ANSA)
