Italy is ready to launch the EN Wallet, a digital wallet that will store essential documents of citizens, such as their identity card (Identity Card), driver's license (Guida's Patent), voter registration card (Electoral Card), Italian CPF (Fiscal Code) and the health card (Health insurance card), for example.

The project will also allow the integration of documents from private companies and professional associations, bringing a true digital revolution to interaction with public administration.

IT Wallet: When will it be released?

The IT Wallet Experimentation Phase starts this week, on October 23rd, initially available for 50 thousand Italian citizens, with plans to expand to 1 million and eventually all interested parties.

The goal is to offer a unique platform, accessible by IO application, to centralize important documents. According to Alessio Butti, Under-Secretary of State of the Presidency of the Council responsible for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition, “the digital wallet will initially be public, but there will be the possibility of developing private versions, in accordance with European guidelines”.

Data security will be guaranteed by advanced levels of authentication. For basic access, the use of a combination of password and OTP (temporary password) will be required.

For more sensitive services, it will be necessary to use an NFC reader or smartphone for validation with the CIE (Electronic Identity Card), or the purchase of an additional service for those who use the SPID (Public Digital Identity System).

The project also seeks to simplify the Italian digital ecosystem, which currently has three different digital identity tools: CIE, SPID and TS-CNS. EN Wallet aims to unify these technologies and facilitate access to services for both citizens and public administrations and companies.

With the integration of new documents and the possibility of including private business cards, IT Wallet promises to transform the way Italians manage their documentation, making the process more agile, secure and modern.

There is no information about the possible availability of IT Wallet at Italian consulates in Brazil.
