Italian police are investigating the illegal administration of anti-Covid vaccines to children and relatives of healthcare workers. The case occurred in Modena, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
According to ASL (Local Health Agency) sources, they told the newspaper Gazzetta di Modena, health operators made “a serious error” in the incident that occurred on Wednesday night (06), at the Baggiovara vaccination center.
Some of the health workers who should have received the vaccine did not show up for immunization.
Because of this, the employees who were administering the doses called their children or relatives to take BNT 162b, from Pfizer/BioNTech.
The protocol determines that, if there is a “surplus”, it is necessary to locate other health professionals or even hospital employees who are working on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Bottles that have already been opened need to be applied, as they lose effectiveness if left unused for a long time.

The spotlight was turned on after the daughter of a Modena health worker posted a photo on social media, getting vaccinated.
The nucleus specialized in health crimes of the Arma dos Carabineiros, one of Italy's four armed forces, opened an investigation.
For the delegated commissioner for the management of the Coronavirus emergency in Italy, Domenico Arcuri, the case of Modena is a “crime against health“, and must be investigated.
Country fears that doses of the vaccine will end up in the hands of the mafia
A report released this week by the Italian Ministry of the Interior warns of the risk of mafia groups trying to appropriate vaccines against Covid-19.
The document was produced by a Police monitoring entity, at the request of the Ministry, regarding the risk of mafia infiltration into the economy.
